I’m Kari Carlisle, an editor, writer, and longtime nonprofit leader. I work especially well with writing that asks readers to think: speculative fiction, creative nonfiction, research-based manuscripts, and work from nonprofits and cultural organizations.
I’m drawn to writing with something at stake: an idea that deserves to be understood, a world that needs to feel real, a history that should not be flattened, or a mission that matters beyond the page.
I ask the questions that help a draft find its shape: What is this really about? Where might the reader lose the thread? What needs more room, and what is getting in the way? Then I help you make the piece clearer and stronger while keeping it recognizably yours.

Beyond books and manuscripts
Much of my career has been spent helping museums and nonprofits explain why their work matters. My experience includes museum interpretation, public history, nonprofit communications, educational content, grant narratives, and stories grounded in mission and purpose.
I have spent more than twenty years leading museums, cultural institutions, and nonprofit organizations. That work taught me how to find the story beneath the information, recognize where an audience may lose the thread, and make complicated ideas understandable without oversimplifying them.
