About Kari Carlisle
I work with authors, professionals, and organizations to shape writing that communicates clearly and effectively. Much of the work I’m drawn to involves complex ideas or meaningful stories where getting the message right truly matters.
My background spans more than two decades in museums, cultural institutions, and nonprofit leadership. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with content that had to connect as well as inform. Whether developing exhibits, leading organizations, or working with community partners, I’ve focused on translating complex ideas into experiences people can understand and engage with.
That work carries directly into my approach as an editor. I look for what a piece is trying to say and where that message becomes unclear, uneven, or less effective. My role is not simply to correct language, but to shape writing to enhance structure, clarity, and momentum. I pay attention to how ideas unfold, how arguments are built, and how readers move through a piece.
My academic background includes studies in theology and anthropology, disciplines grounded in interpretation, meaning, and human experience. Over the years, I have worked across a wide range of formats, including books, articles, essays, newsletters, marketing content, funding proposals, and creative writing. That range has strengthened my ability to adapt to different voices, audiences, and goals.
If you’re working on a project and want a thoughtful partner to help shape your writing, I’d be happy to connect.
