I help writers make complicated ideas clear, engaging, and readable without flattening what makes their work distinctive.

My work goes beyond correcting grammar. I look at what you want the writing to accomplish, where readers may lose the thread, and what the draft needs to become stronger. Some projects need big-picture restructuring. Others need careful attention at the sentence level. We will determine the right approach for yours.

Developmental Editing

For manuscripts with strong ideas that need a clearer shape, stronger throughline, or better pacing.

Developmental editing looks at the work as a whole. I consider what you are trying to accomplish, how effectively the draft carries the reader from beginning to end, and where the structure may be working against you. I will identify problems, ask questions, and recommend practical ways to strengthen the manuscript.

This may include:

  • Clarifying the central idea, argument, theme, or story
  • Reorganizing material to create a stronger progression
  • Identifying gaps, repetition, inconsistencies, or points of confusion
  • Strengthening pacing and narrative or logical development
  • Providing detailed editorial feedback and revision priorities

Best suited for:

  • Fiction, creative nonfiction, and nonfiction manuscripts
  • Research-based or idea-heavy projects
  • Essays that need substantive revision
  • Drafts that need big-picture work before sentence-level editing

Line Editing

For complete drafts that need more precision, smoother flow, and stronger sentences.

Line editing focuses on how the writing works from one sentence and paragraph to the next. I edit for clarity, rhythm, tone, and readability while preserving your voice and intentions. The goal is not to make the writing sound like me. It is to make it sound more fully like you.

This may include:

  • Revising awkward, unclear, or overly complicated sentences
  • Improving transitions and the flow between ideas
  • Refining word choice, rhythm, and sentence variety
  • Adjusting tone for the intended audience
  • Correcting inconsistencies in grammar, usage, and style

Best suited for:

  • Essays, articles, and short-form work
  • Completed book manuscripts
  • Translated work that needs to read naturally in English
  • Drafts that are structurally sound but uneven at the sentence level

Manuscript Coaching

For writers who want an experienced reader beside them as the work develops.

Not every project is ready for a full edit. Manuscript coaching gives you ongoing feedback and a place to work through questions, test ideas, and make decisions as you write or revise. You remain in charge of the work, but you do not have to solve every problem alone.

This may include:

  • Reviewing chapters or sections as you complete them
  • Identifying problems and helping you determine what to tackle next
  • Talking through structure, content, characters, or ideas
  • Establishing manageable goals and maintaining momentum
  • Helping you understand why something is or is not working

Best suited for:

  • First-time authors
  • Long-form projects still in development
  • Writers who feel stuck or overwhelmed by revision
  • Writers who benefit from feedback, structure, and accountability

How We Work Together

  1. Initial conversation
We begin with a 15–20 minute conversation about your project, audience, goals, concerns, and timeline.
  2. Project Review
I review your manuscript or a representative sample to determine what kind of editing will be most useful.
  3. Proposal
I provide a written proposal describing the recommended approach, scope of work, schedule, deliverables, and project fee. You will know what the work includes before deciding whether to move forward.
  4. Editing
I complete the agreed-upon work and provide clear edits, comments, and recommendations you can use. The exact deliverables will depend on your project and the type of editing it needs.

Every project is different. The first conversation and review allow me to recommend the level of support that will give you the most value.
